MAHARASHTRA: The third wave of COVID-19 has reached Nagpur city in Maharashtra, said the city's guardian minister Nitin Raut on Monday.

"After a long time, we have reduced the number of positive cases to twice as many. There is a third wave, "The minister was quoted as saying by the news agency ANI.

Raut also stated that the local administration may impose restrictions in order to prevent the spread of the infection.

This announcement came after a review meeting with officials presided over by the minister.

A disaster management meeting is scheduled for the near future.

It has been decided to impose some restrictions, but we will make a final decision after consulting with people's representatives, "he added.

According to reports, the administration may also request that shops and other establishments remain open until 4 p.m., with a complete shutdown on weekends.

It may be mentioned that on Monday, Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray warned that ignoring warnings about a possible third wave would cost the state dearly.

Meanwhile, Maharashtra in the past 24 hours reported 3,626 new coronavirus cases and 37 new fatalities, bringing the total number of infections to 64,89,800 and the death toll to 1,37,811.
