AGARTALA: The Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb informed that the government would promote local products in response to Prime Minister’s ‘Vocal  for Local’ call. He also called upon people of the state to encourage ‘Local for Diwali’ while purchasing puja materials and gifts.

Bed recently announced a decision of the state government to provide handloom sarees to ASHA workers.

He said the procurement would be made from Purbasha – which is the exhibition cum sale store of the Tripura Handloom & Handicrafts Development Corporation Limited.

"PM Narendra Modi ahs appealed to the masses to devote this Diwali in the name of local producers who will help to boost the economy of the respective States and the country as a whole. He believes that when everybody will buy local products, hail them and will spread the message of their good quality work, it will uplift their business and the name of the State, Deb stated.

Chief Minister Deb made public the decisions after interacting with local handloom weavers, clay artisans and craftsmen.

Earlier, the Chief Minister had also launched 'Bamboo Diya' for Diwali produced by SHGs (Self Help Groups) of Sipahijala.
