GUWAHATI: The Kaziranga National Park (KNP) in Assam which was submerged by floodwaters on Sunday is now causing a threat to the animals at the Park.

Floods had affected 76 of the park's 155 anti-poaching camps as of Sunday evening, according to park officials.

A huge number of wild animals have emerged from the park's periphery in search of highlands in the nearby Karbi hills, which are located on the park's southern boundary.

According to sources, two hog deer were killed in two separate incidents on the highway on Sunday.

Due to the floods, they were hit by speeding vehicles as they crossed the road to reach the nearby hills in search of highlands.

In the aftermath of floods threatening the animals at the Kaziranga National Park, the park authority has issued an advisory asking heavy vehicles like trucks to use North Bank Road to avoid traffic along National Highway 37.

"ADVISORY

">@kaziranga has started issuing time cards to regulate traffic in animal corridors. Heavy trucks are kindly advised to use North bank road to avoid traffic in Kaziranga stretch of NH 37," KNP authorities tweeted.

Issuing a press release on the same the KNP authorities advised heavy trucks traveling from Tinsukia and Dibrugarh to Nagaon and Guwahati to use the North bank road via Bogibeel Bridge to avoid traffic on the Kaziranga stretch of NH-37.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma also urged all vehicles traveling towards Lower Assam to avoid the NH 715 and rather use the NH 15 through North Bank.
