At least three terrorists of the Ansar Ghazwat ul Hind were gunned down by the security forces on Wednesday in Pulwama.

The terrorists were killed in an operation carried jointly by the Army, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and the Jammu and Kashmir Police (JKP).

In a press statement, the JKP said that the three “terrorists” killed in the encounter were identified as Jehangir Rafiq Wani, Raja Umar Maqbool Bhat, and Uzair Amin Bhat. All three terrorists belonging to the terror outfit ‘Ansar Ghazwat ul Hind’.

As of now, the security forces are tracking down other suspected persons in the areas so that the threat of any terror attack can be eliminated. So far there are no reports of any casualty or injury to any security personnel.

According to reports, a team of Special Operation Group (SoG) had specific information about some militants and based on the input, the team initiated an operation in Awantipora.

A conducted cordon and search operation (CASO) was conducted by the team after which the encounter took place with the militants.

The police stated that three weapons and ammunition were recovered from the encounter site however, now the specifications are to be released.

It is said that earlier the militants were linked with the Hizbul Mujahideen but they recently shifted and joined Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind (AGuH).

Jehangir Rafiq Wani has been said to be the second-in-command to Hizbul Mujahideen commander Hammad Khan in Tral, Pulwama district.

Reports claim that after Hammad died in January 2020, Jehangir left Hizbul Mujahideen and joined AGuH.

The police further said that the slain militants were involved in several “terror” related acts in the region and were also responsible for killing civilians and arson in 2019. They were also said to have been pasting threat posters.
