Bengaluru, July 29, 2019:

Assam's sprint icon Hima Das, who has been on a medal winning spree of late, has one more reason to smile about. On the eve of the World Tiger Day on July 29, a six-month-old tigress from the Bannerghatta Biological Park  was named after the girl with the golden legs from Assam.

Just after the Bengaluru tigress was named after the 'golden girl' Hima, people flocked from far and wide to the sanctuary to witness the royal beast named after Assam's star athlete.

On Sunday, the tigress named Hima was released along with three other cubs into a safari-zone so that wildlife enthusiasts could see the magnificent beasts from up close. In total, five tigers have been released into the sanctuary.

It is to be mentioned that Hima is the third Banerghatta animal to be named after an athlete. Earlier, a sloth had been named after the legendary cricketer and former Indian skipper M S Dhoni and another was named after the Mithali Raj, the current captain of the Indian women's cricket team.

Hima, who hails from Dhing in Nagaon district of Assam, has brought laurels to the State by winning five international-level medals within a month. Her achievement has been lauded by the who's who of the country -- from Bollywood bigwigs, to state
