Amid the lockdown enforced to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus, the tourism stakeholders demanded the government to allow a resumption of the homestay services for the development of the inter-district tourism after May 17 as Sikkim has not registered any positive case so far.

The tourism stakeholders also planning to open the homestays for the domestic tourists after October 16.

To promote Sikkim as the safest place to travel flowing Standard Operating Protocols, the Sikkim Hotels and Restaurant Association, Consideration of Indian Industry and Travel Agents Association of Sikkim will soon meet CM.

“The tourism industry has incurred a huge loss of nearly six hundred crore and we are looking waiving on few things,” Roshan Pradhan, president SHRA said. He further said that tourism is the backbone of Sikkim's economy and more than 2 Lakh people are directly associated with the tourism industry in the state.

It may be mentioned that Sikkim has no positive coronavirus case while it has infected over 80 thousand people and claimed over 2500 lives across the country so far.

As the country has witnessed an exodus of migrant labourers, the Sikkim has been on a war footing to bring back the people of the state stranded in different parts of the country.
