The District Transport authorities in Hailakandi have collected Rs 2.54 lakh by way of fines in the past two months, thanks to Traffic Suraksha Enforcers.

District Transport Officer, Syed Rafiqul Mannan said the amount has been realised by way of fines following the launching of Traffic Suraksha Enforcers WhatsApp Group where the public report on traffic violations by way of photos and videos. The group was floated on June 27.

"0n receiving a photo of traffic rules violation, we initiate action by sending a challan to the registered owner of the vehicle stating the penalty provision and fine. This has not only led to realisation of fines but also most importantly in reducing traffic mishaps and fatalities," quipped Mannan.

The transport authorities here in order to increase the number of participants organised a competition with cash prizes to the sender of highest photographs.
