Tripura: AAI to introduce touch less ticket scanning in MBB Airport

AGARTALA, MAY 13:

Airport Authority of India has decided to introduce touch less ticket screening systems in MBB Airport Agartala in order to evade any physical touch and direct contact between the passenger and airport staff. The development came in the wake of a meeting convened today in order to assess the preparedness of the AAI authorities prior to the likely resumption of flight operation in the Airport.

According to sources, the AAI is readying to begin operation maintaining the strict health protocols in place as soon as the lockdown is lifted. “Since there is no exact date, we are gearing up our preparedness in view of the ongoing lockdown and henceforth decisions to come from the ministry of civil aviation”, said Airport Terminal Manager Jempu Hoakip.

On being asked on the non-contact check-in system, he said, “In our meeting, we have chalked out plans to keep the check-in and check-out system from the terminal building touch-less as much as possible. In this regard, separate enclosures have been put on place in the terminal building to prevent direct contact between the passenger and the officials—CISF personnel, Airlines people, and other people engaged in managing the airport”.

Starting from the beginning, he said, for entering the main terminal building use of masks has been made mandatory. If someone does not carry a mask, he can procure a mask from the new shop going to be opened in front of the airport which will sell masks, gloves and other protective equipment in a very minimal price. Once, the passenger comes in front of the main entrance he will show his ticket and ID proof to the CISF personnel manning the entrance from outside of an enclosure. Enclosures using acrylic glasses have been set up there to give protection to the CISF people, he said.

Speaking about the next course, he said, all the passengers, if have their printed tickets, will have to scan the barcode to get printed boarding passes in the desired airline booth. There also, enclosures are given to prevent direct contacts. The boarding passes will be generated in the side in which the passenger is standing like an ATM-like arrangement, he added.

He also said that if there were no printed tickets, the passenger would be asked to show his or her PNR number to get his boarding passes printed manually by the airlines staff.

Moreover, in view of the hygiene of the airport terminal and safety of the people, he said, touch less sanitizer points have been set up. “We have made arrangements of touch less hand sanitizer points. The points will generate sanitizer when people will access these ATM like features”, he added. On being asked on the luggage, he said, the Ministry of CIVIL aviation has already formulated certain criterions on luggage. However, disinfectants will be sprayed on the luggage in both the times—arrival and departure, he told this reporter.
