Agartala, January 30, 2020:

A doctor, who was attacked by a mob of not less than 200 people in Tripura, alleged that the incident was a result of his refusal to give subscription for the last Kali Puja.

While speaking to mediapersons, the doctor, Subendru Debbarma said, “I have been asked to give Rs 15,000 as subscription for Kali Puja. But, I refused to give that much of money. I was threatened twice by the local goons after that. This incident might be a fall out of that.”

It needs mention here that Debbarma was beaten up by an irate mob in allegation of manhandling a young boy in his hospital on Sunday at Dharmanagar. He was later referred to GBP hospital in Agartala.

The doctor said that he had been subjected to inhuman torture by not less than 200 people at Bhung Nang PHC under Dharmanagar sub-division. “I can’t understand what the issue is. More than 150 to 200 people attacked me with brickbats and flower tubs. I tried calling the police but it went in vain and lost conscious henceforth,” the doctor said.

Meanwhile, locals said that the doctor, in an inebriated condition, manhandled a young man who had videographed him consuming liquor during his duty hours.

“All his claims are fake and fabricated. He does not attend his patients sincerely. Almost every time he is found drunk while in duty. And, on Sunday he slapped a local youth after chasing him. The problem with the youth was that he had a video clipping of the doctor consuming alcohol” said one Paritosh Pal of Dharmanagar. He also told this reporter that he had later faced the anger of the locals which was being accumulated since long.

Meanwhile, Officer-in-charge of Dharmanagar police station, Milan Datta said that a First Information Report (FIR) and a Counter FIR had been lodged by the doctor and the villagers.
