AGARTALA: The Tripura High Court on Monday ordered the state to respond to the Trinamool Congress (TMC's )request for permission to hold a public rally tomorrow (September 22).

After hearing a case filed by the Trinamool Congress regarding the denial of permission for a public rally in Agartala, the Tripura High Court issued a notice to the state police on Monday.

Advocate Shankar Lodh said to the court that the TMC had requested permission to hold a public rally on September 15.

However, the rally was not permitted on that day, so the TMC decided to hold the rally on the 16th, which was once again denied by the police.

It needs to be mentioned that Tripura Police denied permission for TMC Member of Parliament and party’s national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee’s first rally in Agartala on September 16 because another party had already received permission to hold an event along the same route on that day.

Later, the TMC announced that they would hold a mega rally on the 22nd and formally met with police officers to seek permission for the rally, but they received no response from the authority until Monday, leaving them with no choice but to go to court.

Trinamool Congress had previously stated that if their third plea was rejected, they would seek legal redress.

The Agartala Sub Divisional Officer has already rejected rally plans twice, even on an alternate route.

This has prompted Abhishek Banerjee to claim that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is afraid of the TMC and that the Biplab Deb-led BJP government is doing everything possible to prevent the TMC from entering Tripura.
