Tripura: Left sees footprints of crisis in hilly pockets

AIKS leader and former MP Narayan Kar on Monday alleged that the ruling Tripura government failed miserably in executing its special packages announced specifically to battle the COVID situation. The Left’s farmers’ organization leader pointed out that the failure of the government had triggered massive resentment and crisis in the hilly pockets of the state.

“The government announced special packages are not being implemented as it should be. Some of the local leaders are praising the central government for it’s 20 lakh crore stimulus package but have not calculated yet as to what extent of it will help the people of Tripura. The poor people of the state are in distress. In some areas, people are being forced to mortgage their ration cards in order to get food for them and their family”, Kar told media.

He also said that the AIKS leaders had met Chief Secretary of Tripura twice and urged him to expedite the process of providing relief to the people of the state. “In two meetings, we have apprised the ground realities of the announcements made by the government. In the second meeting, I have categorically pointed out that not even 10 per cent of the work has been done as per the promises made by the government and its chief”, Kar claimed.

Former MP and GMP President Jitendra Chowdhury, however, said, “The massive privatization drive undertaken by the Tripura government would destroy the structure of Indian economy. Today, he said, countries like America are crumbling to defeat the impact of COVID lockdown on their economy. The large-scale  privatization is the key reason for that. There is no scope of social use of capital in the capitalist economy which is why we see big economies are struggling to reinstate their lost position”.

Chowdhury also suggested that the ministers and MLAs of the ruling party in Tripura should visit remote areas like Dasda, Silachari and Chwamanu to understand the gravity of the problem. “People have been asked not to venture out unnecessarily. In houses where supply of rations is limited and have no access to employment since last two months, you will certainly find people starving for food. But, since no one bothers about them, the voices of those people left unheard”, Chowdhury further claimed.
