Tripura man awarded 20 years imprisonment for raping a seven years old girl

AGARTALA: A middle-aged person identified as Milan Chowdhury in Tripura was awarded 20 years rigorous imprisonment yesterday for allegedly raping a seven years old girl.

 

The accused, Milan Chowdhury is a tenant of Acharjeepara locality in Abhoynagar area of Tripura.

 

A special court in West Tripura for the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses has also imposed a Rs 5000 fine on the convict, failing which he will be subjected to an additional five months in prison.

 

The accused was convicted under section 376 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and section 6 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses Act of 2012.

 

According to report, the 7-year-old was raped on May 9 last year.

The incident took place when the minor came out from the home to play with her friends in a neighbour's house but didn't get any of her playmates and while was returning home, the accused caught her and allegedly raped her.

 

The minor informed her parents about the matter, following which her parents filed an FIR against Milan Chowdhury.

 

The charge sheet was filed within two months, and the case was heard in the special POCSO session.

 

Besides the victim and her family's statements, the court deposited the witness of 15 people. After a series of hearings, Chowdhury was found guilty of raping the minor.
