Tripura: Maximum migrants returned on their own money, claims left labour union

Former transport minister and President of the Tripura unit of CITU, Manik Dey on Friday alleged that maximum migrant labourers returned home on their own money and pointed out lapses on the part of the government in managing the migrant crisis.

He also pointed out that the reason behind people being found positive to the COVID 19 who had come back was due to the lapses in managing the situation properly. “The migrant labourers or those who were stuck in somewhere in the country forced to stay under the open sky, or in some crowded locations as they were driven out of their residents due to dried up resources. Thus, a good number of them had fallen prey of the COVID 19 and the results were before all right now”, Dey claimed. Dey who had been the former transport minister also said that now the duty of the government was to give them proper treatment through livelihood opportunities and other welfare schemes to lighten the sudden economic burden on them.

The former Minister, earlier in the morning, also met in a deputation to the DGP Tripura police highlighting the attacks on CPIM party organized blood donation camps, relief distribution programmes and attacks on the 10,323 teachers.
