AGARTALA: At least 15 members of the Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) were injured in a clash between different political parties over election campaigns ahead of the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) polls in Tripura.

Apart from that at least three motorbikes were also set on fire and many more vandalised.

The incident took place yesterday, at Maniram Bari village in South Tripura district, which comes under the Rishyamukh assembly constituency and Bhurathali constituency.

According to reports, the clash erupted between members of the ruling BJP and the Indigenous Peoples Front of Tripura (IPFT).

IPFT candidate Dhananjoy Tripura will be contesting the polls from the Bhurathali constituency, which seat was left by BJP as per adjustment of seats.

However, local BJP supporters and leaders were not ready to give up the seat to IPFT, and a BJP leader, Rocky Victor, will contest as an independent candidate from the seat.

Victor last afternoon reportedly called a meeting at Shiv Charan Tripura's home in Moniram Bari village. While the meeting was in progress, a group of pro-IPFT activists attacked and the BJP members sustain injuries, and three bikes were set on fire.

Soon after the incident occurred police and a large force of the Tripura State Rifles, and firefighters rushed to the spot and brought the fire under control.

All the injured are undergoing treatment at Rishyamukh Hospital.

However, Tapas Baidya was referred to the Gomati District Hospital for further treatment by the doctors as he sustained serious injuries.

A case has also been registered against the attackers by the BJP.

Following a tense situation in the state, police and huge TSR forces have been deployed in different parts of the constituency to prevent further untoward incident.
