Tripura Education Minister Ratan Lal Nath on June 14th, 2020 laid emphasis on the rationalized way of conducting blood donation camps and said that the trend of blood donation was seen gradually going upward since the new government took overcharge.

Nath, who is known for his well-calculated speeches and data based briefing, on Monday shared a complete data of the blood donation camps and involvement of people for this noble cause which showed a gradual rise even amid the Covid 19 pandemic.

“We need only 1% of blood units of the whole population which approximately stands at 40,000 blood units to suffice the demand our blood banks. As we know, it cannot be sold or procured from other sources we have to be dependent on our people for blood. And, do to so we need to chalk out a rationalized calendar”, Nath pointed out. According his calculation, every month 70 persons from each of the constituencies if donate blood there will be no blood crisis in the blood donation camps.

Sharing data of the blood donation in previous years, he said, in the year 2017-18, 22,833 people donated blood in the blood donation camps held several parts of the state. Whereas, in the year 2018-19, after the new government took over charge, the number soars up to 26,745 and in the next year 2019-20, though it dwindled a bit for the Corona pandemic, the number stood at 25,051, he told a gathering organized by a school’s alumni association on the occasion of “World Blood Donors Day”.

He also said, “The number of donations done by the relatives also increased to 5,767 in 2018-19 and 8,186 in the year of 2019-20. The data shows that social stigma or fear psychosis that use to prevent people from donating blood has been wiped out among the masses and people are coming willingly to support the noble cause”.
