AGARTALA: Tripura royal scion Pradyot Kishore Debbarma, was attacked by some miscreants at the Mohanpur sub-divisional magistrate office in West Tripura district on Friday.

The scene happened just 24 hours before the votes in the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council are counted (TTAADC).

Despite the presence of police and security forces on the scene, the SDM office was also stoned and targeted by the hooligans.

Pradyot, who resigned as president of the state Congress in 2019, launched his own political party, Tipraha Indigenous Peoples Regional Alliance (TIPRA), this year, and fielded candidates in 23 of the 28 tribal council seats that went to polls, in collaboration with the Indigenous Peoples Party of Twipra (INPT), which fielded candidates in the remaining five.

Despite the fact that the elections were held amid sporadic abuses, Pradyot later expressed optimism that his party would win a strong majority in the results after the results were counted today.

Pradyot said on his Facebook page earlier today after going live with what appears to be CCTV footage from the SDM office, “I'm at the SDM offices in Mohanpur, and we're being harassed by political goons.

Let us clash on a political level rather than physically fighting each other. Let's see who has the people's support,” Kishore said, referring to the ruling party's legislators. He did, however, implore his activists and supporters to refrain from violence.

The situation was brought under control, according to a police, and Pradyot Kishore returned home safely. Officials from other government agencies and law enforcement agencies could not be contacted for comment.
