Tripura: Students’ body demands inclusion of Kokborok as desirable language in Govt exams Tripura: Students’ body demands inclusion of Kokborok as desirable language in Govt exams

The Twipra Students’ Federation (TSF), Tripura on June 30th, 2020 demanded the Tribal Welfare Minister to include Kokborok language as a desirable language along with Bengali and English for the scheduled exams of Tripura Forest Service.

Addressing a press conference here in the Agartala Press Club, Tripura, TSF General Secretary Sunil Debbarma said, “In an advertisement published by Tripura Public Service Commission for recruiting forest officials, Bengali has been only placed as a desirable knowledge apart from the educational qualification. The authorities should understand that despite a huge Bengali speaking population, Kokborok is one of the major official languages of the state.”

“We demand that Kokborok language should be incorporated as one of the desired languages as in such kind of recruitment along with English. It is pertinent to issue a fresh advertisement in this regard before the last date of submission,” Debbarma said.

The organization also demanded proper roster of recruitment and timely payment of scholarship so that students could pay their semester fees in time. “In some cases, roster register is not being followed in case of recruitment. Moreover, the scholarships are being paid in installments to the students. These things should be taken care of for the welfare of students and the job aspiration as a whole”, Debbarma told media persons.

The indigenous students’ body also demanded speedy filling up of vacant posts at schools, Colleges, and Universities along with backlog posts reserved for the Scheduled Tribes in Tripura. The organization placed two spate letters to the tribal welfare Minister and Education Minister seeking their attention on these issues.
