Tripura: Tribal Wing of CPI (M) Stages Massive Anti-CAA Protest in Agartala

The tribal wing of the CPI (M), Tripura Upajati Ganamukti Parishad staged a massive protest against the Citizenship Amendment Act or CAA in Agartala.

After not being seen prominently at the statewide protests against CAA, the tribal wing of the party hit the streets in an obvious attempt to prove that it was not all over in Tripura.

Thousands of party activists turned up and took to the streets against the contentious CAA bringing the vehicular activities of the city to a standstill. Participation of women was also worth noticing.

GMP Chief and former MP Jitendra Chowdhury, in his speech, called everyone to unite against the divisive forces, BJP and its allies.

The rally, which was actually called to protest against the contentious CAA, had been seen as one of the major political push before the ADC polls where it was in power.

Senior opposition leaders including leader of the opposition Manik Sarkar, CEM and GMP General Secretary Radhacharan Debbarma, former minister Naresh Jamaita, GMP supremo Jitendra Chowdhury and many more led the rally that rocked the jam-packed city.

Addressing the rally, Chowdhury launched a scathing attack on the ruling BJP and urged the centre to scrap its recent legislation, CAA.

“The act that has been passed based on the power of number in the parliament is against the foundation of the Indian constitution in fact, it is communal in nature. This act needs to be scrapped in the interest of the people of this land”, Chowdhury charged.

He added, “In every 28 minutes a farmer is c being forced to commit suicide due to his pathetic financial condition. But, the government is not bothered about that. They have no policies to resolve the existing problems of the country but extending empathy to the persecuted minorities of neighboring countries”.

Blazing his guns on the ruling IPFT, he said, the party come to power promising separate state but never uttered a single word in the state assembly regarding statehood.

“IPFT come to power harping on empty promises like statehood. Not a single time the issue has been raised in the state assembly despite being a ruling ally. People will answer them in the ballot box” Jiten claimed. He also extended solidarity to the people protesting in Shaheen Bagh.

Through the rally, the party placed an 18 point chartered of demand and asked the government to focus on real issues. Apart from him, leaders like, veteran CPIM leader Narayan Kar and Naresh Jamatia also spoke on the occasion.

The rally started from Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhavan and ended at Swami Vivekanda stadium.
