Dehradun: The Chief Minister of Uttarakhand Trivendra Singh Rawat stepped down from his post today.

Rawat submitted his resignation to Governor Baby Rani Maurya at Raj Bhawan after his arrival from Delhi, where he met the party's central leadership.

"The party gave me a golden opportunity to serve this State for four years. I had never thought that I would get such an opportunity. Extremely thankful to the party for giving the opportunity to a man hailing from a small village. The party has now decided that the opportunity to serve as CM should be given to someone else now," Rawat said after submitting his resignation to the governor.

The now-former CM added that a legislative party meeting would take place at 10 am on Wednesday after which his successor would be announced.

Sources said, the state's political crisis in the state was triggered when the Aam Aadmi Party saw a political opportunity and approached a senior minister in the Uttarakhand government, offering him the position of Chief Minister.

Following this, when the BJP sensed trouble, a churn for leadership had already begun.

Trivendra Singh Rawat was called to Delhi and shown an internal survey showing his deteriorating leadership position, which he allegedly failed to clarify to the satisfaction of the party.

According to reports, he's been asked to make a smooth transition. There are said to be two names in the race to replace him.
