NEW DELHI: Senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's Twitter account has been locked 'temporarily' over a controversial post of Gandhi that violated its rules against posting private information.

Gandhi posted a photograph with the family of the nine-year-old Dalit rape victim who was allegedly gang-raped and murdered then cremated without her family’s consent by a priest and three others on August 1.

Rahul Gandhi's Twitter account was suspended after the National Commission for the Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) requested the Delhi Police and Twitter to take action against Gandhi for posting a photo of the girl's family on the microblogging website, claiming that it violated the Juvenile Justice Act and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

In India, revealing the identities of sexual assault victims or their families is illegal and may result in a violation.

In general, once a user's tweet is removed due to a violation of the rules, they are not permitted to tweet for 24 hours.

The party's official Twitter account tweeted, "Shri

">@RahulGandhi ’s Twitter account has been temporarily suspended & due process is being followed for its restoration. Until then, he will stay connected with you all through his other Social Media platforms & continue to raise his voice for our people & fight for their cause. Jai Hind."

On the other hand, Congress communication department head Randeep Surjewala said that Rahul Gandhi's Twitter account has been locked due to a complaint lodged by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Instead of bringing justice to the nine-year-old Dalit girl, the BJP and the Narendra Modi government are far too concerned with intimidating Twitter and illegally pursuing Rahul Gandhi.

What did Rahul Gandhi post on Twitter?

Posting a photograph of him meeting the victim's family he tweeted in Hindi "The tears of parents can only mean one thing: their daughter, the daughter of this country, deserves justice. And I'm with them on this quest for justice."

Rahul Gandhi met with the victim's family members on Wednesday and stated that he is with them on the road to justice and "will not back down even an inch."

According to reports, sources in the party claimed that Gandhi had done nothing wrong and that he had the permission of the girl's family to post the photograph.
