GUWAHATI: Microblogging site Twitter has released its first monthly compliance report, in accordance with the new Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021.

In which the company said that Twitter has suspended 22,564 accounts for promoting terrorism or sharing content showing child sexual exploitation and non-consensual nudity.

It also stated that it had taken action against 133 posts for a variety of reasons, including harassment and invasion of privacy.

The data covers the period from May 26, 2021, to June 25, 2021, and includes Twitter material.

This includes complaints from individual users, as well as court rulings, according to the report.

The report further stated, "We received complaints about account verification, account access, or seeking assistance or information about an account or Twitter's enforcement activities in our Grievance Officer - India channel that is not included in the data below. During the reporting period, the bulk of complaints received through this method fell into these categories."

"And in addition to the above information, we handled 56 grievances involving Twitter account bans. All of these issues were rectified, and appropriate responses were sent out. Based on the facts of the case, we were able to reverse 7 of the account suspensions, but the remaining accounts remain suspended," it added.

Meanwhile, it has appointed Vinay Prakash as its Resident Grievance Officer (RGO) for the country.

Furthermore, Twitter informed the Delhi High Court last week that, in order to comply with the new IT guidelines, it will require eight weeks to hire a resident grievance officer.
