U.P Police arrested 4 including a Journalist on the way to Hathras

The police in Uttar Pradesh on Monday night arrested a journalist from Kerala and three other men.

The Police arrested Atiq-ur Rehman of Muzaffarnagar, Siddique of Malappuram, Masood Ahmed of Bahraich and Alam of Rampur on Monday night on their way To Hathras.

During interrogation, it came to light that they had links with PFI and its associate organisation Campus Front of India, the police said.

The police arrested them on charges of carrying “suspicious literature” while they were proceeding towards Hathras.

The police also said, adding their mobile phones, laptop and some literature which could have an impact on peace and order, were seized.

However, The Kerala Union of Working Journalists (KUWJ),

claimed that Siddique is their member and the secretary of the union and is a senior Delhi-based journalist.

He had "gone to Hathras on Monday morning to cover the present situation in the area," the Kerala Union of Working Journalists said in a statement.

The journalists' body urged for his release at the earliest in a letter to Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath,

saying he was trying to perform his duty as a reporter.
