ULFA-I leader Jibon Moran shifted to Dibrugarh; handed over to Assam Police

DIBRUGARH: Senior United Liberation Front of Asom-Independent (ULFA-I) leader Jibon Moran has been brought to Dibrugarh Police Station after initial interrogation at the police reserve here today.

Speaking to the media, Dibrugarh superintendent of police (SP) Prateek Thube said: "Gunakanta Dangoria alias Gunad alias Jibon Moran has been brought to Dibrugarh Police Station today with the combined effort of Assam Police and Indian Army. We are processing the legal process in connection with various cases pending against him. His interrogation is going on. We will brief about the legal action to be processed again him very soon."

Replying to a question, whether the senior ULFA-I leader has surrendered or arrested, Thube said he has been brought into the custody.

"We will brief about the nature of legal procedure to be initiated against him very soon. Since, this is a combined effort of Assam Police and the Indian Army, we will brief about the reason of bringing him to Dibrugarh in details in a press conference very soon. He will be in police custody for the time being. His medical test has been conducted today and his health condition is found to be stable now.  We have also done his COVID-19 test," Thube said.

Earlier on April 25, the ULFA-I had relieved Moran from all responsibilities of the outfit on ‘medical grounds’.

The banned outfit through a statement said Moran was relieved from the organisation after he had opted for retirement citing ‘health problems.’

He was the finance secretary of the ULFA-I.

Moran, who hails from Uban village in Kakopothar in Tinsukia district of Assam joined the ULFA in 1984.
