Guwahati, February 1, 2020:

Yes, the common man's fears have been confirmed. Under the Union Government's budget that was presented earlier today by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, Indians will have to shell out more for several commodities due to an increase in customs. Meanwhile, customs duty on only two components has been decreased.

According to the new budget, customers will now have to pay more for products like imported footwear, furniture and medical services. People will also pay more for a few alcoholic beverages and tobacco as customs duty on them have been increased.

Following is the list of goods that shall get costlier and also the ones that will get cheaper under the Union Budget 2020-2021.

Goods that will become costlier:

Footwear

Furniture

Imported medical equipment

Cigarettes

Tobacco products

Wall fans

Kitchenware

Raw sugar

Skimmed milk

Some alcoholic beverages

Soya fibre

Soya protein

Agro-based animal products

Steel

Copper

Clay iron

Catalytic converters/some electrical products

Some automobile spare parts

Goods that will become cheaper:

Import of newsprint (lightweight coated paper reduced to 5%)

Purified terephthalic acid
