Guwahati, January 31, 2019:

Senior advocate Upamanyu Hazarika has made three demands to the state administration in order to secure the Rights of the indigenous people of the state before the General Elections.

Firstly, he has demanded the passing of a legislation reserving land, government employment and trade licenses for the indigenous people based on 1951.

Secondly, he has demanded the re-verification of the NRC.

Thirdly, he has demanded the opposition of Citizenship Amendment Bill and any such instrument thrusting immigrants into Assam.

Hazarika added that these protective legislations are sure to discourage migrants from staying in Assam as they have turned away from other Northeast states due to such measures.
