WASHINGTON: United State President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris have assured India and its citizens that they will provide all required assistance, including sending life-saving medical supplies and equipment, to help the country fight the deadly coronavirus outbreak.

In a tweet President Biden said, “Just as India sent assistance to the United States as our hospitals were strained early in the pandemic, we are determined to help India in its time of need.”

According to report, the President was at his home in Delaware for the weekend, but he is thought to be keeping an eye on the situation in India.

“The U.S. is working closely with the Indian government to rapidly deploy additional support and supplies during an alarming COVID-19 outbreak. As we provide assistance, we pray for the people of India—including its courageous healthcare workers,” vice president Harris tweeted.

Senators and representatives from the United States, as well as experts from think tanks and prominent Indian Americans, had been made aware of the epidemic in India, which has killed thousands and resulted in oxygen and vaccine shortages, earlier this week.

However, public pressure mounted on the Biden administration to provide urgent assistance to resolve the crisis, that had remained quiet on the subject until the end of the week, with a few exceptions.

Today morning, Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin released a statement expressing his support in tweeter, “I’m deeply concerned about the COVID-19 outbreak in India, and today, I directed the @DeptofDefense to use every resources at our disposal, within our authority, to support U.S. interagency efforts to provide India’s frontline healthcare workers with the materials they need”.
