GUWAHATI: A team of Assam police is headed to New Delhi to take "lawful action" against Rajya Sabha MP K Vanlalvena in view of an interview that he gave to a national news agency, said a top official from Assam.
Assam's Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order) G P Singh has posted a flurry of tweets relating to the border clash with its Mizoram counterpart on July 26 last.
In a tweet, Singh revealed that a team of Assam police including officers of CID shall be leaving for New Delhi to take lawful action relating to "conspiracy" behind the incident in light of a media interview of Rajya Sabha MP K Vanlalvena "indicative of his active role in the conspiracy."
Vanlalvena, talking to news agency ANI, claimed that more than 200 Assam police personnel had pushed their Mizoram counterparts back from their post and given firing orders first.
The video of Vanlalvena's interview has been circulating on social media platforms for a while now.
"They are lucky we don't kill them all. If they come again, we shall kill them all," the Rajya Sabha MP Vanlalvena told the media.
Singh tweeted that the Assam Police has announced a reward of Rs. 5 lakh for information leading to the arrest of the individuals involved in the "barbaric killing" of the Assam Police personnel on July 26.
He also informed that they have registered a case at Dholai Police Station in Assam’s Cachar district under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), Arms Act and Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act, 1984.
Singh wrote on Twitter: “Dholai PS Case No 236/21 under sections 120( B), 447, 336, 379, 333, 307, 302 IPC read with Section 25 (1-A) of Arms Act and Section 3 of Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act 1984 has been registered on July 27th 2021 about killing of Assam Police personnel on July 26th.”
Six Assam police personnel fell to bullets on July 26 as a border dispute with neighbouring Mizoram took a bloody turn.

Officials from both sides, including Zoramthanga and Himanta Biswa Sarma, have accused each other of provoking violence. The firing incident follows months of simmering tensions over a long-running border dispute between the two states.
Assam shares a 164km (about 101 miles) border with Mizoram, and both states contest its demarcation.
Like several other northeastern states of India, Mizoram was previously part of Assam until 1972, when it was carved out as a Union Territory.
The two sides have often sparred over it, sometimes violently. But this was the first time police in the states had fired at each other in a direct confrontation. The officers killed in the attack were from Assam.
The Centre has been trying to mediate a truce between the states since 1994 but has failed to achieve a breakthrough.
