Veteran sports organiser Bhakti Medhi passes away

GOALPARA: Former vice president of Assam Cricket Association (ACA) and a veteran sports organiser of Assam Bhakti Medhi passed away following prolonged illness at his Kalitapara residence here around 5.45 pm this evening.

A former professor of Goalpara College here, was 70 years old at the time of his demise. He left behind his wife and two sons.

Before becoming vice president, he was also joint secretary and assistant secretary of ACA in the past. He was also manager to the Assam Ranji Trophy and other tournaments teams on various occasions.

He was also president of Goalpara District Sports Association from 2015 to 2017 and its general secretary from 1988 to 2016.

The ACA and various other sports and social organisations have condoled his demise.

The ACA described his demise as an irreparable loss to the sports circles of the state.

“We would like to share our sorrow and sympathy with the bereaved family through this message. May his soul rest in peace,” a statement from the ACA said.
