GANGTOK: A mobile veterinary team headed to the Changu Pani and Sikkim Megu under Yangthang constituency in West Sikkim on foot due to lack of road connectivity to treat as many as 60 sick yaks.

After receiving reports of yaks exhibiting signs of vesicular lesions in the oral cavity accompanied by excessive salivation and anorexia leading to the death of the animals on June 22, the team headed by Arjun Kumar Chettri, ALI, Darap Veterinary Dispensary visited the region on June 23 to set up a three-day treatment cum vaccination camp for the yaks.

A total of 60 yaks who were reported sick were treated by the team to control the infection and 191 yaks were vaccinated against FMD.

Arjun Kumar Chettri was accompanied by Loknath Poudyal, Nim Pintso Bhutia, Raptay Bhutia, and Hemant Limboo.

Dr. Pramada Gurung of the District Veterinary Hospital in Gyalshing supervised and coordinated the team that carried out the treatment camp by taking a two-day trek to the high region.
