BARABANKI: At a time when many people are unable to get vaccinated against the deadly COVID and getting vaccinations becomes a distant dream due to the unavailability of vaccine dosages in many states, a group of villagers in Uttar Pradesh was seen jumping into a river to avoid getting the infection's vaccine.

After seeing a team of health officials coming to vaccinate them against coronavirus, a group of individuals in Barabanki's Sisaurha village jumped into the Saryu river on Saturday hesitating to get vaccinated.

According to reports, the villagers plunged into the river because they had been told that this was a poisonous injection rather than a vaccine.

Later, the officials told the villagers that they would not be vaccinated because they were afraid they would drown in the river if they went any further.

According to reports, only 14 people in the village of 1,500 people were vaccinated.

"It's due to a lack of knowledge...we'll be launching an awareness drive in the village soon," a senior district official in Barabanki said.

On the other hand, India in the past 24 hours recorded 4,454 new fatalities, pushing the death toll in the country to 3,03,720.

Meanwhile, a total of  2.22 lakh fresh cases of COVID-19 were reported during the period, bringing the total number of positive cases in India to 2.67 crores and the total recoveries now stand at 2,34,25,467.
