NEW DELHI: Union minister of state for road transport and highways Vijay Kumar Singh, who is a member of parliament from Ghaziabad, was found seeking help to find a hospital bed from the district magistrate of Ghaziabad for a COVID-19 patient on Twitter today.

"Please help us as my brother requires a bed for his corona treatment. Ghaziabad is running out of beds," part of the tweet shared by Singh read.

The tweet created chaos right after it was published not only because the tweet exposed the collapsing healthcare facility of India contrary to the central government's claims at the time of COVID-19 pandemic, but also when a minister himself was facing such a situation.

But Singh clarified after an hour that the tweet he has posted was a forwarded message to him. Singh was not seeking help for his own brother but for a victim who had reached out to Singh seeking help.

"Tweet was forward of a tweet to DM and says ‘please look into this’. Forwarded tweet is in Hindi. Bed needs have been sorted out by DM & CMO, hence to DM. Suggest correct your understanding," Singh tweeted clarifying his previous tweet.

India is facing a second wave of COVID-19 pandemic as well as a shortage in oxygen, hospital beds and vaccines. The healthcare facility of the nation is reportedly collapsing. Many states are stated to be trying to hide their data regarding death and positive reports as well and Uttar Pradesh is one of them.

UP authorities fenced a crematorium in Lucknow with tin barricades recently, as videos of COVID victim pyres went viral.

UP is one of the worst-hit states by coronavirus and with the surge of the virus, UP's healthcare infrastructure is under tremendous stress. One COVID patient was allegedly told by a COVID-19 command centre employee to 'go and die' when asked for help.
