Voting for Congress is like inviting Mughals to invade Assam: Himanta Biswa

NAZIRA: Assam Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma today claimed that voting for the Congress in the ensuing polls will be akin to extending an invitation to a Mughal horde, escalating his attacks on the Congress-AIUDF led grand alliance as his party seeks to hold onto its biggest bastion in the Northeast -- Assam.

"On one hand Rahul Gandhi and Ajmal. On the other hand, there is prime minister Narendra Modi. Let us remember this -- voting for the Congress is like once again extending an invitation to the Mughals, once again calling Ajmal. Voting for Congress will once again lead to the infliction of untold miseries on the Batadrava Satra and shall imperil the lives of the one-horned rhinos in Kaziranga," Sarma said at an election rally here.

Taking a veiled jab at the sitting MLA, Congress' Debabrata Saikia, Biswa Sarma said, "Nazira is today one of the five most backward Constituencies across Assam because of the MLA's incompetence. All the roads, schools, colleges, etc, are in a dilapidated condition."

“Vote for the BJP candidate Mayur Borgohain and we will try to turn Nazira into the most advanced Constituency in the state. Under his administration, the Constituency will receive a new lease of life,” urged Biswa Sarma.

The Minister also claimed that "each vote cast in favour of the Congress will extend an invitation to Ajmal to ascend to the castle in Dispur" and exhorted the rally attendees to "defeat Ajmal."

Seeking to counter the opposition's attacks over the "unemployment problem" in Assam, the Minister added that the BJP-led government, if voted to power, will generate one lakh jobs within one year.

“From the pious ground of Nazira I promise you that we will generate ten lakh jobs and within the very first year, generate one lakh jobs for the youths of the state,” the Minister said at the rally.

The Minister also said that the State government is mulling to increase the amount given under the flagship ‘Arunodoi’ scheme from Rs. 830 to Rs. 3,000.
