Guwahati, September 11, 2019:
The workers of the All Assam Midday Meal Workers’ Organisation have demanded a hike in their salaries. Addressing the press here today, one of the leaders of the organization, Jiten Rabha, said that they earn just Rs 1,000 monthly.
“It is nothing. We demand attention from Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal”, he said.
“When we went to meet Education Minister Siddhartha Bhattacharya, he just shooed us away”, he said, adding that the Education Minister “lacks humanity”.
The organization further implored that the Education Minister should listen to the mid-day meal workers. “We demand that the 10-month salary plan be renewed to a 12 months’ one. We further demand that employment certificates should be provided and our jobs should be secure”, Rabha added.
“A thousand bucks is nothing and if we can’t provide our kids with the necessary things then there’s no point in continuing work”, the midday meal worker lamented.
