Tezpur (Assam), September 16, 2018:

Elephant menace continues in the state and this time many houses were damaged in an elephant invasion in Sonitpur on Saturday night.

One of the locals said that a herd containing at least 20 elephants broke into the Naharani Tea Estate in Sonitpur on Saturday night and damaged multiple house in the area. The residents were lucky enough that they managed to escape and as a result no one was injured.

The elephants also ‘demolished’ a grocery shop completely.

The local also added that another herd at the same time destroyed two houses in the Kacharigaon tea garden.

The forest officials are currently trying to keep everything under control as there are possibilities of the jumbos returning to the area in search of food.

It may be mentioned that on Friday at least 3 people were severely injured in a similar elephant invasion in Guwahati’s Panjabari.
