World Fisheries Day celebrated in Cachar

World Fisheries Day was celebrated in a befitting manner at Dakbangla Netaji Sangha at Borjalenga in Cachar district on Sunday.

Dispur: World Fisheries Day was celebrated in a befitting manner at Dakbangla Netaji Sangha at Borjalenga in Cachar district on Sunday.

Minister for Fisheries, Environment and Forest and Excise, Parimal Suklabaidya was the chief guest.

The Minister handed over a cheque to a progressive fish farmer of Kalain Block, Ranjhana Das amounting to Rs.3,37,500. He gave away certificates to the best fish farmers namely Maa Monasha SHG under Palonghat Block, Joydeep Das under Borjalenga Block, Abdus Salam of Karimganj district and Murshed Ahmed Choudhury of Hailakandi district.

Suklabaidya also flagged off fish transport vehicles - two motorcycles with iceboxes and two e rickshaws with ice boxes - under the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana, 2020-21.

He urged the youths to take to fishing in a big way as it is a 'very lucrative business. He said the youths must come forward to avail themselves of the government schemes to make a decent living.

The event was attended by Deputy Director of Fishery, Tapan Kumar Das, Managing Director of FISHFED cum Nodal Ifficer, APART, Dr.Dhruba Jyoti Sharma, DDC, Cachar, Rajib Roy, DFDOs, Nalbari and Cachar and other dignitaries.
