GUWAHATI: Assam heartthrob Zubeen Garg has finally broken his silence in the wake of his alleged sexist remarks against 'Ratnakar' actress Nishita Goswami in public.

Asked about the comments that he had made at the recently-held Prag Cine Awards, Zubeen said, "I would not like to comment much. All I can say is that I was joking, but it was taken too seriously."

Zubeen had commented on the actress' backside on stage, in plain view of around 4,000 attendees, triggering a massive outcry across Assam. It needs mention here that probe into Zubeen Garg's indecent remarks shall be completed by February 20, Guwahati Police has informed the Assam State Commission for Women (ASCW).

Over Zubeen Garg’s comment on the actress during Prag Cine Award Show 2021 in Guwahati recently, a suo moto cognizance was taken.

The women's rights panel asked the police to do an investigation and report to the Commission. The Commission has sent a copy of its instruction to the Assam DGP. Meanwhile, LGBTQ rights activist Milin Dutta claimed that the singer did not give him a chance to speak and misbehaved on stage.

The North East India Association for Women’s Studies (NEIAWS) has strongly condemned the ‘outrageous and insensitive behaviour’ of Zubeen Garg during an award show on January 30.

The NEIAWS has also sought an unconditional collective public apology from the singer "to the two women he had targeted in the incident and to all women in general whom he has insulted by the blatant gender insensitive act of his, and also to the trans community of the region", it said.
