GUWAHATI: With the COVID-19 vaccination drive for the 18 to 44 age group begun today as many as 100 journalists from various media houses in Assam were administered the first dose of the Covaxin vaccine at the Guwahati Press Club.

The vaccination drive was launched by the state health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma at Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), this morning.

. At the launch today, we administered

#Covaxin

  class="css-901oao css-16my406 r-poiln3 r-bcqeeo r-qvutc0"> to youth with special needs. The drive will be in full swing from May 7," minister Sarma wrote on Twitter after launching the vaccination drive.

The vaccination drive will continue for the next few days with an aim to cover all the working journalists.

Furthermore, family members of the journalists will also be vaccinated at a later stage.

Assam has received a fresh batch of 1.5 lakh doses of Covaxin from Bharat Biotech.

"The fresh batch will give a boost to the vaccination drive in the state," said Sarma.
