NANDURBAR: Due to an increase in COVID-19 cases in the state, the Nandurbar district administration in Maharashtra has placed a lockdown in the district with effect from today midnight to April 15.

During the lockdown, all non-essential services/activities, such as local stores, movie theatres, shopping centres, and religious institutions, will be closed.

The decision was made after the district began constant monitoring of over 400 cases a day.

According to reports, local transportation will be unavailable during this period.

Petrol pumps and fuel stations have been told to only fill up vehicles that are required for essential services and government officials.

Schools, universities, and coaching institutes will all be closed during the lockdown.

However, online coaching centres will continue to operate.

Groceries and vegetables will be sold every day from 6 a.m. to 11 a.m., according to reports.

Because of an increase in the number of cases, the situation in the district has got worse in recent days.

Meanwhile, Rajesh Tope, the state's public health minister, on Tuesday said that a full lockdown would be unaffordable.

Sitaram Kunte, Maharashtra's chief secretary, is reviewing the state's Covid-19 situation and may issue new guidelines by the end of the week.

Although the state is unlikely to control shop hours, areas with high foot traffic, such as malls, restaurants, and movie theatres, could be fully shut down.

Despite the spike in cases in March, Maharashtra's Covid-19 fatality rate has been steadily decreasing, from 0.4 percent on March 7 to 0.3 percent in the week ending March 28.

On the other hand, the Nashik district administration has issued new restrictions to prevent people from moving outside their homes and visiting markets unnecessarily in the wake of a rise in COVID-19 cases in Maharashtra.

According to the order, residents of Nashik will now have to pay Rs 5 per person every time they visit a market in the city.

With just one entry point, the markets will be locked. The Rs 5 coupon will have to be presented at the time of entry.

Although hawkers, local vendors, and shopkeepers will be given passes, those who live in the market areas will only be allowed inside after their identities have been verified.
