MUMBAI: As many as 22 COVID- 19 patients died in Maharashtra’s Nashik today due to a lack of oxygen after an oxygen tanker leaked outside a hospital causing the oxygen supply to be cut off for about 30 minutes.

The incident occurred at the Zakir Hussain Hospital in the city, a COVID-designated facility.

Images from the hospital show the tanker rapidly leaking gas and covering the surroundings in white fumes.

The leak was identified in the oxygen tank which supplied oxygen to these patients.

As the oxygen supply was cut off, the patients and their families became frightened.

Images of families attempting to assist patients as they gasped for air are now surfacing on the internet.

Around 150 patients were either in need of a steady supply of oxygen or on ventilators.

The gas had spread throughout the area, causing widespread panic. Fire trucks were rushed to the scene to stop the leak.

Rajesh Tope, the Health Minister of Maharashtra, has promised that the government will look into the matter and conduct a thorough investigation.

According to Tope, the interruption in supply could be linked to the deaths of the 22 hospital patients.
