Another jawan who hailed from Assam, laid down his life fighting Naxals in Chhattisgarh

GUWAHATI: Dilip Kumar Das, an inspector with the 210 battalion of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), who also succumbed to bullets of Maoists in Chhattisgarh, hailed from newly created Bajali district of Assam.

Das joined the CRPF in 2001 and was posted in Chhattisgarh at the time of the attack. He is survived by his wife and two daughters.

Police recovered 20 bullet-riddled bodies of jawans in the jungles of Chhattisgarh on Sunday, raising the number of security personnel killed in encounter with Naxals to 22.

The dead include eight from the District Reserve Guard (DRG), seven from the CRPF's Commando Battalion for Resolute Action (CoBRA), six from the Special Task Force (STF) and one from the 'Bastariya' battalion of the CRPF.

Union home minister Amit Shah on Sunday said a ruthless reply will be given to those responsible for the attack.

Earlier, Shah cut short his electioneering in Assam and returned to Delhi following the incident.
