Arunachal Pradesh: Incessant rain amid lockdown creates havoc in Itanagar

Intense incessant rains accompanied by cyclone for the past couple of days has created havoc in different parts of Itanagar causing flood and damage to property.

ITANAGAR: Intense incessant rains accompanied by cyclone for the past couple of days has created havoc in different parts of Itanagar causing flood and damage to property.

Reportedly, shop owners were forced to rush to their shops amid lockdown to save their goods from being damaged and swept away by the flood.

According to sources, more than 35 shops of Akashdeep market in Ganga area of Itanagar have been  flooded by water.

Torrential rain has also triggered landslides in various places of Itanagar causing inconvenience to the commuters while travelling through the four lane National Highway that was completed recently.

The local residents are blaming the flawed construction of the highway as there is no proper drainage system to absorb flood water during Monsoon.

The district of Dibang valley has been completely cut off due to the collapse of a bridge.

Amid the lockdown, the continuous downpour has thrown life out of gear in the state with several districts witnessing landslides and flood-like situation.

The Meteorological department had earlier predicted thunderstorm in the state on Sunday. It further predicted that heavy rains will be focused on the districts of West Kameng, East Kameng, Papumpare, Upper Siang, East Siang, Lower Dibang Valley, Dibang Valley and Lohit on and around Monday.

Northeast and adjoining East India have been on the receiving end of intense rainfall conditions since quite a few days, due to the presence of Cyclone Yaas in the Bay of Bengal.
