Assam: Escaped COVID-19 positive rape convict arrested at Lungsung

Initiating strict search operation, Kokrajhar, Assam police today apprehended Sukat Murmu alias Sukla after five days, who fled the RNB civil hospital Kokrajhar on 29th July was COVID-19 positive rape convict.

He was arrested today morning at Lungsung area in Kokrajhar district.
SP Kokrajhar Rakesh Roushan while confirming the apprehended the escaped rape convict, informed that one UTP of Dhaligaon PS case no. 112/2020, U/S 376 (D) of Chirang district namely Sukat Murmu @ Sukala Murmu, S/O late Ram Murmu, r/o vill Shantipara, PS Dhaligaon, Chirang was admitted in RNB Civil Hospital,  Kokrajhar after tested COVID +ve on 25.7.2020. He was in Kokrajhar District Jail since 15 5.2020 in Assam.


 In the intervening night of 28.7.2020 and 29.7.2020 he fled away from the jail by breaking the window of the verandah. After that all were on alert and effort was on maximum to nab him.

And accordingly, today morning he has been apprehended at Lungsung area in Kokrajhar district, Assam.

Police and medical team are bringing him to Kokrajhar with a strict measures.

He said that police administration has deployed a strict security vigil along with the hospital complexes where isolation wards were set up in the district.
