Assam fully prepared to combat COVID-19 situation; no lockdown in the state: Himanta

GUWAHATI: Assam health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma today said that there is no necessity to impose a lockdown in the state to combat the COVID-19 situation.

The minister said that the state has sufficient resources to combat the COVID-19 surge, so it would not be necessary to impose a lockdown.

Sarma said that the state has substantial stock of oxygen, Remdesivir injections, medicine, testing kits besides other resources to fight the disease.

The minister categorically ruled out the possibility of a lockdown in the state immediately.

Assam recorded 2,236 fresh cases of Covid-19 and 14 more casualties due to the infection over the past 24 hours.

With the fresh cases, the COVID-19 tally in the state mounted to 2,35,689.

Kamrup (M) recorded three deaths, while Dibrugarh, Hojai, Jorhat, Kamrup districts reported two death each. Barpeta, Sonitpur and Tinsukia districts reported one death each.

Kamrup (M) continued to remain on the top with 815 cases followed by Kamrup 196, Nagaon 123 and Dibrugarh 115 cases.

This leaves the state with 14,198 active cases.
