DISPUR: Assam's government, continuing its mission to digitize its operations, is set to deploy drones to check for encroachments in the hill areas.

This was announced by the state's Finance Minister Ajanta Neog while announcing the Assam Budget for 2021-22 on Friday in the Assembly.

She also announced that new mechanisms would be adopted to ensure hills in Guwahati remain free from encroachments. The drones will be monitoring open spaces and hills in the city round the clock.

At the same time, the geographical area of Orang National Park is to be expanded, announced Neog, adding that new wildlife safaris and rescue centres are to be set up at Dibrugarh and Silchar districts, respectively.

Also, Rs 12 crore has been earmarked to take over the land of Assam Polyester Cooperative Society (APOL) Corporation for setting up alternate industrial activities.
