Silchar: In a shocking incident that is being reported from Cachar district of Assam, a school in the Upper Painom area bordering Mizoram was bombed by miscreants on Friday (November 6). No casualties have been reported so far.

According to sources, this shocking incident occurred at the Upper Painom Lower Primary School. Visuals from the site show extensive damage to the school property.

This comes amid massive unrest along the Mizoram-Assam border over a dispute. The school where the blast took place was reportedly taken over by Mizoram's IR Battalion in the wake of clashes that erupted in the bordering areas.

The spate of violent incidents along the Assam-Mizoram border has crippled the movement of trucks, and there was additional deployment of forces from the Mizoram side.

Meanwhile, unrest still prevails in Cachar over the alleged killing of a Lailapur native by Mizo miscreants. Mizo officials, however, have claimed that he was peddling drugs

As a mark of protest against the recent incidents of violence, the All Cachar Karimganj Hailakandi Students’ Association (ACKHSA) on Tuesday had called for a 12-hour Barak Valley bandh on Saturday from 5 am to 5 pm. The shutdown is being observed today.

Security has been beefed up in Silchar and the disputed areas along the Assam-Mizoram border in view of the 'bandh.'

In a similar incident, a bomb blast hit a Bengali-medium school near Saihapui V village in Mizoram’s Kolasib district bordering Assam late on Thursday night. This drew widespread condemnation from the Assam side. Even Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma sought to draw attention to this shocking incident.
