The Bureau of Investigations Economic Offences (BIEO) on Monday arrested three government officials for involvement in an alleged rice scam in Guwahati.

While one of the accused Lakheswar Saikia is a chief commercial manager of Northeast Frontier Railways, the other two accused namely Dhirimba Hazarika and Tilak Chandra Bhattacharya are officers of the Food Corporation Of India (FCI).

According to sources, the alleged 1.2 crore rice scam dates back to 2013-2014 and came to light after an investigation was launched on the same.
