BHERGAON: Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) chief executive member Promod Boro today said the new council is going to blacklist contractors who are found guilty of delivering poor quality work in any government project.

Interacting with the media after inaugurating the newly set up Uldalguri Polytechnic Institute here, Boro said many projects initiated during the Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) regime in Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) were detected to be built compromising quality.

“Many projects, including roads and buildings, built during the previous council administration are found to be of quite inferior quality. We are going to constitute a panel to assess the quality of infrastructure. The contractors who are found guilty of delivering inferior quality infrastructure will be blacklisted by the BTC for future work,” he said.

He also said that the contractor who built the newly inaugurated institute has also left the building work incomplete. “There are complaints that quality has been compromised building this infrastructure. I can also see a lot of incomplete and inferior quality work in this building. We are going to issue a notice in this regard tomorrow,” he said.

Sources, however, said the building was inaugurated even before it was completed because the government is on a inauguration spree in view of the state assembly elections in March-April. The state government has been inaugurating various infrastructure and launching various schemes apart from releasing funds to beneficiaries under various schemes over the past couple of months.

About the Polytechnic Institute here, Boro said: “It was a long felt need of the people of Udalguri district as well as adjoining areas. It’s an important institution for our region. We are going to develop more educational infrastructure in the near future.”
