COVID-19 claims 2 more lives in Assam; 876 new cases recorded

GUWAHATI: Assam today recorded 876 fresh cases of Covid-19 and two more casualties due to the infection.

The deaths were reported from Kamrup (M) and Kamrup districts. The new cases have been detected out of 43,268 tests conducted in the last 24 hours.

The state has so far tested a total of 78,07,560 samples for COVID-19.

Kamrup (M) remained on the top of the chart with 360 cases followed by Kamrup with 56, Sonitpur 47, and Dibrugarh 42 cases.

Meanwhile, 149 patients were discharged from various hospitals during the day, taking the count of recoveries in the state to 2,16,546. The recovery rate in the state now is 97.26 per cent.

This leaves the state with 4,794 active cases. The death rate stood at 0.50 per cent with 1,129 deaths.

A total of 15,60,059 people, including 4,38,756 frontline workers, 3,03,872 healthcare workers and 8,17,431 people above 45 years have been administered the COVID-19 vaccine in the state so far.

Among those inoculated, 1,26,297 frontline workers, 1,15,374 healthcare workers and 37,559 persons above 45 years have received the second shot of the vaccine so far.
