COVID-19: Sikkim govt extends lockdown, shops to remain open

GANGTOK: The Government of Sikkim has announced an extension to the ongoing lockdown in the state till May 31 in view of the COVID-19 surge.

During the period of lockdown, ration and vegetable shops remain open from 8 am to 11 am though it was prohibited during the earlier lockdown which was enforced till May 24.

The major restrictions that have announced during the last lockdown are — All state government offices, shops including ration shops, private commercial establishments, institutions, gyms, markets, and factories to remain close apart from those who engaged in medicine production, medical equipment, and oxygen and allied sectors.

Central government offices will operate as per the Indian Government’s instruction.

There is will be a complete restriction on movement of the people and goods and passengers vehicles other than those who are engaged in essential goods such as milk, food items, vegetables, animal feed, petroleum products, medical supplies LPG etc.

Milk vending shops are permitted to open between 7 am to 11 am.

Officials on duty are allowed for movement on the terms of providing valid ID cards.

Sikkim has registered 317 fresh cases of COVID-19 in the last 24 hours and 3 cases of casualties.

Currently, the infection tally of the state stands at 12,521 and as many as 220 succumbed to the virus so far.

With the new cases, active cases of the state have risen to 3,175.
