COVID-19 tests made mandatory for all entering Assam by road

KOKRAJHAR: The Assam government has made COVID-19 tests mandatory for all those entering the state by road.

The state government has set up a COVID-19 testing centre at Srirampur in Kokrajhar district along the Assam-Bengal inter-state border.

Moreover, an isolation centre has also been established in the area.

All individuals entering the state by truck, bus and personal vehicles will have to undergo COVID-19 tests at the check-gate.

On the other hand, individual who tests COVID-19 positive at the check-gate will be shifted to hospital in his respective district.

COVID-19 testing centre is also being set up at Chagolia check-gate in Dhubri district along the Assam-Bengal inter-state border.

Assam’s COVID-19 tally went up to 2,33,453 as the state reported this year’s highest single-day spike of 2,384 fresh cases over the past 24 hours.

Kamrup (M) district recorded the highest number of 883 new cases, followed by Kamrup 159, Dibrugarh 154 and Nagaon 100.

On the other hand, 12 new fatalities pushed the state’s coronavirus death toll to 1,172, while 1,347 patients have died so far due to other reasons.

Kamrup (Metro) reported five deaths, Kokrajhar two, while Dibrugarh, Hojai, Jorhat, Kamrup and Udalguri districts recorded one death each.

The state now has 12,595 active cases, while 2,18,339 people have so far been cured of the disease, including 348 yesterday.
